“Celebrating Black History, Black Excellence,
and Black Cultural Experiences”

The ATL Has Something to Say HBCU All-Stars Challenge took place in Atlanta, showcasing exciting matchups featuring top HBCU basketball programs.

  • On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Howard University defeated Tennessee State in an overtime thriller, 88-84, at Georgia State University.
  • On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Fayetteville State secured a 64-54 victory over Tuskegee at Clark Atlanta University’s L.S. Epps Gym.
  • Later that evening, Clark Atlanta University leveraged a strong first half to overcome Shaw University, 78-68, improving their season record to 2-1.

This event highlighted the competitive spirit, talent, and dedication of HBCU basketball programs in a city renowned for its rich culture.

 

Home to some of the most distinguished HBCUs, civic leaders, and loyal fans, the event brought together a diverse community to celebrate the talent and legacy of HBCU basketball. The ATL Has Something to Say HBCU All-Stars Challenge successfully honored the pride, tradition, and competitive spirit of Historically Black Colleges and universities

The “ATL Has Something to Say HBCU All-Stars Challenge” is a premier event in Black college basketball, highlighting exceptional HBCU players and coaches. The week-long festivities include competitive basketball games, a college admissions fair, financial empowerment sessions, a Social Justice Panel, and a series of community outreach activities. These events aim to showcase athletic talent, academic contributions, and cultural heritage of the Black community.

It seeks to empower students and athletes, promote HBCUs and their academic offerings, foster community engagement, and spotlight the cultural wealth of Atlanta as a hub of Black history and excellence.

Attendees can participate by purchasing tickets through Ticketmaster for specific games, including the standout Howard University vs. Tennessee State University matchup at the GSU Convocation Center. Additional events are accessible on campus at Clark Atlanta University, with tickets available via Ticket Return. The event is supported through partnerships with local businesses, educational institutions, and cultural organizations to offer a holistic and enriching community experience.

We will work in the community and help restore and revitalize a basketball court and make it a safe space & capture the spirit of the city, highlight the ATL HBCU Challenge and bring pride to the community.

This “must-attend” symposium will focus on the power of HBCU sports to educate and inspire college coaches & student-athletes and promote engagement in social justice and civil rights issues. We will engage local leaders in the community and national leaders across the country in great dialogue.

Seminar exposing middle and high school students & student-athletes, & their parents to HBCUs rich history, education, and experiences on & off campus in an intimate environment with an open dialogue panel discussion.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS FAIR

We believe in the HBCU college experience and invite youth groups, students, and families interested in learning more about college life to attend this FREE event. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about HBCUs across the country and ask important questions to get them ready for the transition from high school to college.

The ATL HBCU Challenge Experience will feature a battle of the bands & drum-Line competition, step show & Divine 9 stroll-off, dance & cheer competition, HBCU pep rally and Black Expo supporting local black owned businesses.

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Our Financial Literacy will be a key component of the HBCU Experience that aims to provide great exposure, insight and financial expertise to local high school and HBCU students, & student-athletes in attendance.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
& ENGAGEMENT

Our players and coaches will visit local elementary, middle, and high schools; YMCA; Boys & Girls Club; Big Brothers & Sisters; and other non-profit organizations in the local area to share their HBCU experiences, read to the children, & participate in fun activities.
